I have worked in my feild for over thirty years, took my first sick days this past fall due to lyme diesese in over ten years. I have worked in many dangerous and terrible conditions. I have never been late and never say no to my boss. I have breathed aspesdose and bathed in PCB oil. I have had hundreds of stitches, taped it up with electrical tape till the job was done. I have broken fingers, lost teeth and hung over the side of 60 story buildings. I have worked for free many times just to make sure the job made money. I work on my work truck on my own time. I have done twice the work required of me to keep a fellow employee working. i sacrificed time with my family to get a job done on time and under budget. I get along with everyone and always willing to go the extra so others dont have to. I have given credit to others for things i have done. I have taken blame for things I had nothing to do with. I can figure out any problem, and make it work. I have never been fired from a job, I have never collected un employment or any kind of assistance.

I am the best at what I do

Today I was laid off from my job.
Today I got

I'm really very sorry to hear that Reel. I know life isn't fair sometimes and this seems like one of those times. I do hope we're on our way out of this thing and people can get back to work soon. If it's any consolation, I've lost my job twice in my career and both times it ended up being a good thing. I hope that's the case for you as well.

That's sucks! But keep your head up with a positive attitude. Look at it as a new beginning/chapter in your life. Things will get better.

You see alot of this nowadays. Employers get rid of the old blood and replace it with new. Saves the company $$$$.

I know one person after 25 years got laid off. They hired an attorney to negotiate and got one year severance pay and 6 months COBRA. The future looked uncertain. Then they bounced back with a better job and alot more money with a new company starting out.

There is a company out there that is looking for some experienced person just like you. You have to find them. They won't come to you. Use all your online resources to get your professional resume out there. Monster.com and CareerBuilder.com are a good start. There are many more. Just search them out, including company websites.

The market is tough, but there are jobs out there. I wish the government would protect workers like you, but they don't.

Sorry to hear that man - You work your ass off all the while watching others do just what they have to (and never a bit more) and then this shit happens.

Makes you wonder why you do it. I guess it's because that's the type of person you are (and were raised to be, and will teach your kids to be), and you couldn't do it any other way even if you wanted to.

Best of luck on the job hunt.

Wow, makes you wonder what you have to do??? Sorry to hear your news Reel :(

One door closes another opens? I know when hubby was dismissed illegally from a job and sued, he began then running a small golf course, a dream job for a golfer, it's changed his life.

Hard to look at the positive side right now hopefully this does end up the same way in a new life change for the better.

Thanks to all of you for the kind words and support.
I have had a tremendous response to this bad time. My first boss called me monday and offered to put me to work. I have had at least 10 calls from people I have been doing work for through my job, that cant believe I have been laid off and have offered me work.
After getting over the initial shock and self pity, I have hit the street running, I took on a couple jobs on my own and worked for 14 hours on tuesday for cash. Today we are getting 20 inches of snow so the plan is to load up the kids in the four wheel drive and spend the day shoveling snow (they need to learn the value of work)
You find out who your riends are when things are bad and it is obvious that I have some great friends.

Thanks again for all your support.

My sisters job went overseas somewhere, alog with the all the jobs in the entire town and surrounding area.Shes got a nice severance package and been drawin unemployment 2 yrs.
I believe the US should tax every incoming goods,so it will equal things out with products that are made in the USA.One major problem is products made with slave labor in other countries. We need to level the playing field, before any major recovery happens.Perhaps undo NAFTA would be a start.I knew the fallout from that would take a few years, and now we all see.

I understand your pain. I walked into work one Wednesday in 2008 and was told I could go home I was no longer needed. No reason, no explination - just go home.

After searching for months for a job I finally broke dowm and applied for Unemployment for the first time after losing everything I owned including my home and transportation. I still haven't found a job. When you are 40+ nobody wants you anymore. Now my pride as well as my possessions are gone and I am living with friends. Thank God I have a few of those or I would be out in the street.

I wish you the best on getting back into the swing of things. I'm not having such good luck at it. I am currently researching something to do online to make a steady income. If you or anyone else has any suggestions I am willing to listen to them.

Keep this in mind. Your job clearly took a toll on you, this may end up being the bet thing that happened to your career.
